I'm also right into the later Crimean campaign in 1854 and certainly none of the light cavalry took them and are more accurately sculpted without. I believe you would be safer going for the sheepskin but then you only really need to satisfy yourself.Unlucky Generalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03483184112954794715noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5602923242818158481.post-57109628576202292402021-06-06T15:04:52.447-07:002021-06-06T15:04:52.447-07:00Many thanks for this summary.

I doubt very much if any fur caps were still being worn by Waterloo given their replacement in 1809 with the peakless shako, then their red shako after that. That shows all ranks with black fur caps and all with red shabraque edged in white vandykes. The Perry Hussar guide show all 1815 ranks of the 10th Hussars in red shakos and only the officer with a red shabraque and other ranks with just the sheepskin saddle. Having painted my 10th Hussars as per the Airfix box art I suspect they are beyond redemption. Were any of the 10th at Waterloo wearing fur caps and if they were what colour were they? I know I made an error or two when I made mine... and I'm always guilty of going for the sportier option when there's any doubt. I got an unsolicited letter from P. Haythornthwaite one bonkers saturday morning, Paper Soldier Aficionado Edward Ryan Had sent him my proofs to look over before printing. He said he had seen proof for both white and red shako top ribbons for the tenth but nothing definitive regarding shabraque... I remember he did mention many of the British Uniforms in the hundred days campaign had not had the die properly fixed and so most white grey trousers were streaked with red and blue after the rain at Waterloo! I was responsible for a thing called walkerloo - an attempt to re-imagine toy soldiers for kids)myTHselfhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03133819472663842663noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5602923242818158481.post-23289505314795751322018-12-24T05:21:38.258-08:002018-12-24T05:21:38.258-08:00Good info. I am about to post a series on just this as I have ordered various units painted how I want them painted and not a fudged historical compromise. I suspect the harsh truth is that most units wore great coats and oilskin shakos throughout most of our period, but I don't want that at all! Free yourself of the contradictory misery of reference books and paint them how you want them to look, enjoy, JJ warpaintjjhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/08997436342156047352noreply@blogger.com
