Warlord ECW Cavalry Conversion

About time for some hobby time - been a while. I'm near finished my first Warlord ECW cavalry regiment yet I've started my second. I've had a bee in my bonce about floppy hats and the limited offerings that come on the sprues. Nothing that some cutting and Green Stuff can't cure.

The first obvious deficiency is the total lack of feathers for the hats and conversely, the easiest to remedy.

The other issue as I see it is that they only come with one version of a floppy hat with a turned up rim and that's one turned up at the front.

I rather thought that a hat turned at the side like a slouch hat with feathers was the most classic look, so I took to one on the left and another on the right hand side. I must say this is extremely simple and easy to do to achieve a more individual unit for yourself.

I also made sure that one was turned up on and angle (see the first shot above).

The next time I do this I'll be sure to give by helmeted riders the occasional feather or two - if I can find a reference. This next unit has seen me learning from the mistakes I made with the first unit. This time I remembered to cut away the sheathed sword hilts for those riders carrying their swords.

The last shot is the trooper with a Montrose cap (never a fan) which I cut away and sculpted him bare headed. Work has been busy but I might get a chance to paint over the Xmas days off - who knows.
