Warlord ECW Cavalry Conversions Completed

As it's been that time of year (silly season from Christmas to New Year and onto Australia Day) I'm not giving myself a hard time for a reduction in production. Having said that, I've picked up at least some steam over the past week which as seen this latest unit of English Civil War cavalry all but completed - they are painted anyway.

I'm more than happy with how my floppy-hatted head conversions turned out and the first is the above commander of what is my interpretation of Sir John Digby's horse who fought for the King.

I had a lot of fun with these figures and I made far fewer mistakes than the previous Warlord box. I gave all my broad-brimmed hats a feather and each is a different colour.

These splendid horsemen fought early in the campaigns of Sir Ralph Hopton against William Waller.

My one bare headed rider clearly requires a haircut. I still think I should have given him some facial hair - perhaps the next one.

After this lot I am about to make a partial transition to contrast paints. It's how I paint with my Humbrol enamels (thinned and blended) but the Humbrol paints are becoming notoriously difficult to source in Australia so a fifty year love affair is about to end. It will be Vallejo.

Digby's motto was DEO NON FORTUNA ... 'From God, Not Chance.' His heraldic pallet is blue and yellow and the family crest is an ostrich holding a horseshoe in it's beak. I have the cavalry standards lists from Steve Archibald and you won't find this one in there. My standard is an informed and calculated piece of speculation After all, who could resist an ostrich?

I was at the CANCON this Australia Day weekend where I picked up another box of Warlord cavalry from the bring'n'buy - so I have more to do before I reach out for more. I have cleaned, built and undercoated a unit of dragoons (mounted and dismounted) from Bicorn Miniatures as well as two considerable pieces of ordinance. I'm a year behind in this army build (2024 was the Chinese Year of the Dogshit for me ... mostly) so I have some ground to make up. I'm hoping to pick up an overseas posting before much longer - so we will see.
