Reformation: EIR Army Part 2

I've been painting figures down to the wire before my deployment. I do not feel I have sufficient time to complete the bases, however, so the putty, painting and flocking will have to wait for quite some time to come.

The first few images are of my additional 12 Roman legionaries which complete my third 20 figure cohorts. They are all Wargames Foundry. I only buy direct from Wargames Foundry as a last resort as I'm not a fan of their business model which I'm sure I have expressed in the past. If I were building an EIR army from scratch today it would be with Aventine. But there's no denying the Wargames Foundry sculpts are superb.

I particularly loved the figure and face of the Signifer (point of focus above) . Once all six legionary cohorts are done (figures to hand) all further cohorts will be from Crusader Miniatures - a limited but lovely looking set which look to be standing in reserve.

I painted the Cornicern's bear skin a white faced black bear and of course the Signifer has a lion pelt.

Here they all are, minus two further stands of four from my older paint jobs.

The two other command stands are for my auxiliary cohorts (notionally the Batavians). The first is a full stand of Centurion, Signifer, Cornicern and an Optio.

Unlike the legionaries, my auxiliary Signifer and Cornicern both have leopard skins.

The other command stand lacks a Signifer (because I didn't have one) and I think I'll get away with it as it's really for a detached archer unit whenever I field one. I made up the numbers with a couple of repurposed casualty figures.

I'm happy enough with the shield but it's a little clumsily done compared to my old pain jobs which is bucking the general trend. Well that really is it for much of the next year of so - painting wise.
